Tamils dutybound to spearhead South Asian struggle for global justice: CPI leader

A senior leader of the Communist Party of India, C Mahendran, on Thursday urged Tamils living all over the world to prepare for an ever-intense and unceasing form of struggle to win the rights of Eezham Tamils in the pursuit of global justice. The Eezham Tamil leaders should assert their self-consciousness and shed the mentality that justice for the past crimes of Colombo could be achieved through attracting compassion from the international powers, who act alike in the crave for self interest. As a people living across the coastal entry points in South Asia and long affected by the injustices caused by the colonial and globalisation powers that have been entering South Asia through the Indian Ocean, the Tamils are duty-bound to spearhead the struggle for justice, he said.

The hard injustices caused by the globalisation should be confronted through the power of global humanity in a relentless struggle, the national council member of the CPI told TamilNet Palaka'ni.

The recent happenings at Geneva have caused great dismay among the Tamils world over. Although the average people in Tamil Nadu are not aware of the details of the sophisticated deceptions taking place in Geneva, they are politicised enough to be taken aback by the fact that the unitary State of Sri Lanka cannot be a party to investigate itself, given the nature of crimes it had committed against Eezham Tamils over the past 65 years, Mr Mahendran said.

He pointed out there has been no meaningful attempt to deliver justice at domestic level and questioned how some Tamils could now be deceived into expecting a sudden change in the proven system of Colombo's chauvinism.

The SL State is not capable of transforming itself without the external pressure on resolving the national question. The conduct of successive Sinhala governments since 1948 has clearly established this, said the left leader with 40-year experience in politics. He added that the SL government had conceived the current approach as a tactical manoeuvring to safeguard itself from future international criminal investigations on war crimes.

Identifying the prevailing approach of the powers and other actors to approach the affairs of the island mainly through their Colombo-centric perceptions (Kozhumpu paarvai), Mr Mahendran urged all the Tamil politicians, including those who look upon the Establishments, to point blankly tell the powers not to approach the Tamil question through a Colombo-centric view.

Tamils will be winning their struggle through emancipation and through unifying the global humanity through an inclusive solidarity platform.

In the era of globalisation, it is the major financial corporates that exert control on those elected and the democratic assemblies of the States. The sovereign power of these democratic assemblies is no longer real. These corporates have encircled Colombo and its State. These corporatets seek containment of struggles for justice, Mr Mahendran said.

Agreeing that there is a lacuna in the Tamil literary circles on addressing the external designs of powers and the failure of being locked into internal criticisms, Mr Mahendran, who is also a prolific writer and the editor of literary magazine ‘Thaamarai’ said there are newcomers in Tamil Nadu preparing to address the external challenges. Noting that the youth in Europe contributed remarkably after the end of Second World War, Mahendran said the Tamil youth in the diaspora, especially those among the Eezham Tamils, should realise their literary contribution as the survivors of Eezham War.
