Colombo stages ‘deceptive resettlement’ in isolated pockets within military zone

The uprooted people from Valikaamam North, who were disappointed to see that their residential lands not released as promised by the Colombo regime, gathered on Friday at Vasaavi'laan MMV to discuss the next course of action. The civic representatives from Valikaamam North complained that the SL military wants to maintain the former High Security Zone as Sinhala Military Zone (SMZ) while selectively allowing Tamil civilians into isolated pockets surrounded by military cantonments and business establishments run by the SL military within the SMZ. In the meantime, Non Governmental Organizations have also conveyed their reservation to the SL Government Agent in Jaffna in sending their employees into these pockets, informed civil sources at the District Secretariat of Jaffna told TamilNet.
In the meantime, ex-LTTE members conscripted as the so-called Civil Security Division in Vanni are deployed in SL military run farms inside the Sinhala Military Zone in Valikaamam North, people who witnessed the ex-LTTE cadres being regularly transported into the SMZ said.
SL military is running large extent of vegetable farms, mango farms, dairy production factories, resorts for Sinhala tourists in addition to military stadiums, theatres and playgrounds inside the sized territory between Palaali and Kaangkeasan-thu'rai (KKS), the representatives of uprooted people who gathered at Vasaavi'laan MMV told TamilNet.
The uprooted people were disappointed to see the release of lands in isolated pockets in their GS divisions that have been fully seized by the SL military, said S. Sugirthan, the chairman of Valikaamam North Piratheasa Chapai, who works closely with ITAK leader and TNA parliamentarian from Mavai Senthirajah, who is also from Valikaamam North.
According to earlier information that came from the Colombo government, 1,100 acres (coming under 6 various GS divisions) of more than 6,500 acres seized by the SL military, were to be released to the public.
Initially, two GS divisions, 233 acres in Vazhalaay (J/284) in Valikaamam East and 197 acres in Vasaavi'laan East (J/244) in Valikaamam North were to be released around 20th March.
But, only one third of the lands, most them unproductive lands, were released in pockets. The people who went there witnessed that the occupying Sri Lanka Army (SLA) was maintaining military zones around these released pockets. New fences had been put up by the SL military. Vazhalaay - Vasaavi'laan access road was also blocked with a fresh military fence. The Chief Miniser of Northern Provincial Council visited the two isolated pockets and brought out the concern of the people to the outside world.
The people also spotted that new military cantonments have come into existence in recent years Vasaavi'laan East. A notorious camp run by SL military intelligence had been moved to Vasaavi'laan East, they said.
Out of the remaining 4 GS divisions, there is no talk of releasing lands belonging to Kurumpasiddi (J/242). Informed sources said that the SL military was preparing further “pockets” in the remaining three GS divisions (J/237: Pazhai Veeman-kaamam South, J/238: Kadduvan and J/241: Va'ruththalai-vi'laan).
In addition to these, more pockets of lands are to be released in four more GS divisions on 07th April (J/240: Thenmayilai, J/241: Va'ruththalai-vi'laan, J/246: Mayiliddi North and J/250: Thaiyiddi South).
Instead of releasing lands with civilian contiguity, the genocidal SL military is opening up isolated pockets within the former High Security Zone, which has been transformed into Sinhala Military Zone.
While the SL government and the SL military attempt to show that lands are being released to Tamils, the Tamil people are being subjected to military encampment in pockets in Valikaamam North, the civic representatives said. The situation of Moothoor East in Trincomalee district in the Eastern Province is also the same, they added calling for joint action against the deceptive resettlement of Colombo regime.
