Colombo media conceals rape by military in Jaffna village with discovery of explosives

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 30 March 2016, 20:11 GMT]
An abusive and criminal Tamil man, recruited into the ranks of genocidal military of Colombo and deployed against Tamils, abducted a 16-year-old Tamil girl two weeks ago from Madduvil village in Thenmaraadchchi in Jaffna. The sexually abused girl managed to escape from the custody of the SLA soldier from the nearby Ma'ravaan-pulavu village on Tuesday. As the incident prompted anger among the public, the SL Police was forced to launch a search operation to capture the SLA trooper. During the search operation, the SL Police entered the house of a 31-year-old man and located explosives at Ma'ravanpulavu on Tuesday evening. In the meantime, Colombo-based media, including Indian and Western agencies, engaged in agenda-driven reporting, conveniently censored the chain of events and highlighted only the discovery of explosives.

The SLA culprit who abducted and abused the 16-year-old girl was arrested on Wednesday. He was identified as 27-year-old Sivarasa Sivathas.

The arrest came as the SL Police feared backlash from the Tamil villagers, who were preparing to launch massive protests against the SL military and police.

The 31-year-old man, Jude Sebastian, who was allegedly in possession of explosives, surrendered to the SL Police in Ki'linochchi on Wednesday as the SL Police was detaining his family members since their raid on his house on Tuesday.

Sebastian, who hails from Mannaar district, was residing at Ma'ravan-pulavu in Thenmaraadchi. Ma'ravan-pulavu is situated 13 km southeast from Jaffna city.

Sebasitan was a former LTTE member. But, he was now a friend of the abusive SLA soldier, according to the villagers.

The villagers who had observed Sebastian often leaving his wife inside a closed room whenever he left his house alone, and after witnessing his link to the abusive SLA soldier, tipped the police to check his house when the SL police was on a search for Sivarasa, the SLA culprit, at Ma'ravan-pulavu village on Tuesday.

The Colombo-based media was highlighting the seizure of explosives as an attempt to revive Tamil militancy.

It is yet to be established whether the seized ammunitions were old stock from the times of the LTTE or something connected to SL military's illegal dealings or the least possible of all the narratives, an attempt to revive a militant Tamil struggle.

The personalities associated with the Tamil militant struggle in the past, regardless of the armed movements, have been reputed for their social discipline and were strictly opposed to all kinds of abusive behaviour against women, whether their own or those belonging to other communities.

Within a few hours after Sebastian surrendered to the SL Police, there was another raid at Iluppaik-kadavai in Mannaar district, where the SL police exhumed a steal case with ammunitions around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The SL police in Mannaar didn't reveal whether the raid was connected to the arrest of Sebastian.

The steal case was exhumed from an abandoned toilet pit belonging to the building of Iluppaik-kadavai Agrarian Service Centre, which was used by the SL military and police between 2008 and 2015. The area was under LTTE control earlier.

The abusive SLA soldier Sivathas was not a former LTTE member.

The SL military through various deceptions, recruited more than 600 Tamils in the recent years. However, a large number of Tamil recruits have managed to flee.

There are only 193 males, including Sivathas, and 40 females who remain in the SL military, according to a military official in Jaffna.

There were also reports of underage Tamil girls recruited into SL military from poverty-stricken Tamil families in the North and that they have been deployed under genocidal Sinhala military commanders inside the ‘High Security Zone’, according to those who have escaped from the SL military in recent times.
